Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) is a management tool addressed to the evaluation of products, processes and services through their full life cycle (from cradle to grave). Accordingly, the analysis of a product includes, in addition to the manufacture, the extraction and processing of raw materials, the use and maintenance and the disposal as waste at the end of its useful life.
LCA studies use a specific methodology, essentially based on an inventory of consumptions ( of materials and energy) and emissions in every step of life cycle, followed by an evaluation of the impacts that these consumptions and emissions may have on environment.
The Catalan Network for Life Cycle Assessment is supported by the Catalan Government, Universities, Research and Information Society Department and is currently coordinated by Dr. Joan Rieradevall (ICTA-UAB and Chemical Engineering Department, UAB)
